The Society’s Annual Exhibition held at Devizes town hall

EXHIBITION RULES

Handing in exhibits - All exhibitors must be paid-up members of the Society. All work must be original and the work of the exhibitor. Photographs of works are not acceptable. The handing in of exhibits will be at the Assembly Room, Town Hall, from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 14th August. On handing in of exhibits each artist will be a given a receipt. This receipt MUST be retained and produced when items are reclaimed on Saturday 17th. Any exhibits arriving after 1pm cannot sadly be accepted.

Set-up – the setting up of the exhibition will start at 8.30 when screens and lighting will be set up in preparation for the exhibits arriving.

The exhibition – the Private View will be held on Wednesday 14th at 6.30 in the evening. The exhibition then opens to the public daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm (5pm on Saturday afternoon).

Collection of exhibits – these must be collected on Saturday 17th between 5 -5.30

Exhibits – exhibitors may each submit up to 6 framed (ready to hang) or box canvas paintings with a minimum selling price of £50.00 each, and provided that they have entered at least 2 framed/box canvas paintings, may also submit up to 6 unframed mounted paintings/prints. Unframed mounted paintings are to have a minimum selling price of £20.00 and whilst there is no minimum selling price for prints, no more than 6 copies of each print (i.e. the exhibit + 9) will be accepted for possible sale. A cost increase will automatically be applied for any exhibit entered with a selling price less than the minimums detailed. Members may also submit miniatures and other exhibits e.g. sculptures and ceramics; note however that such items, particularly sculptures, must be of reasonable size and weight to be able to be carried.

Hanging – framed/box canvas exhibits are to be fitted with strong cord or wire to enable hanging (the eyes for wire/cord should be one third of the height of the frame down from the top and the wire/cord should be taut). Unframed paintings and the prints to be exhibited are to be mounted and covered in clear plastic (not cling film) for protection. All painting and prints MUST have a label on the back with the artist’s name, the title of the exhibit, the medium and the price, all clearly written in block capitals and as described on the entry form. There is no size limitation for paintings, please detail dimensions on the entry form for all your paintings. For extra large works the artist is asked to provide an easel.

Framed paintings/boxed canvases (a boxed canvas is one specially prepared for use without a frame and sold as such.  That requires, apart from extra depth to the sides, that the corners are especially neatly made up with a view to them being on display

Please note that fees cannot be accepted at the handing-in.

Paying by BACS is preferable. Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Lawrence Society of Art’, a commission fee of 15% will be deducted from the sale price of any picture at the point of sale.

Exhibitor assistance - exhibitors are asked to help with at least 2 duties during the exhibition – mainly stewarding, but also helping with set up or dismantling.

Times when exhibitors will be available for duty should be clearly indicated on the entry forms.  Assistance is also required for setting up the screens and removing them at the end of the exhibition.  If you, or any of your friends are able to assist please contact Margaret Hanson on email address margarethanson69@gmail.com.

Insurance - the Society has third part insurance through the Society for All Artists (SAA).  This does not cover members’ paintings, and exhibitors are responsible for insuring their own work.
